Kairos Awarded MANO SFX The Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations (MANO) sponsors the nationally renowned Standards for Excellence program. This program encourages and promotes ethical and accountable management and leadership in nonprofit organizations. The centerpiece for the program is the Standards for Excellence (SFX): An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector (Standards), a model for how the most well managed and responsibly-governed nonprofits operate. There are more than 22,000 nonprofit organizations in Maryland – groups with the tax-exempt status under sections 501(c)(3) or 501(c)4 of the Internal Revenue Code. Of this number, less than 100 nonprofits are MANO certified. Kairos is honored to have been awarded the SFX in November 2004 during the annual MANO conference. The award is good for three years with the opportunity for continual renewal. *Standards for Execellence Logo* Kairos is proud to display this Seal of Excellence awarded by the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations. Certification in the Standards for Excellence program is bestowed only to the most well-managed and responsibly governed nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated compliance with 55 specific Standards for Excellence based on honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility, and accountability. Kairos has met, complied with, and integrated the Standards for Excellence into all its activities to successfully complete this voluntary certification program. Homeownship Counsel Agency Kairos has been Homebuyer's Counseling Agency since February 2004, using the nationally recognized Neighbor Works Homebuyers Education Training Program. This 10-hour intensive training program covers topics critical to the homebuyers purchasing process to include: credit, financial management, mortgage lending, shopping for a home, and maintaining your home after settlement.

Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) A major benefit for Kairos is its' designation as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). This designation allows Kairos to obtain federal, state and local funding for housing development and rehab programs. The designation is also beneficial for partnering with for-profit developers who understands the value a CHDO provides within a project. This value varies, but Kairos provides significant intangibles (community and political partnerships) and tangibles (successful housing program and assets, experienced staff, strategic partners) within a project development.


Accomplishments: Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations (MANO) certification, 2004. Of the 22,000 nonprofits in Maryland, less than 100 has this certification. Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) nonprofit housing developer certification in 2003. Qualifies for federal, state and local financial support for housing development. First Board Retreat and Strategic Planning Session in 2004. Designated a Homebuying Counseling Agency in 2004. Over 382 trained on the homeownership process; assisted over 29 to become homeowners. Fannie Mae Corporation partner for Homebuyers Counselor On-Line. Maintains affordable rental housing assets (9 single family homes and a 10-unit apartment building) valued at $2.3 million. Selected CHDO developer, with partners, for 29-acre county owned site to build 74-neotraditional homes in 2004. Selected CHDO developer, with partners, to develop Branch Avenue Metro Station site in 2003. Operated after school Positive Outreach With Effective Results (POWER) Youth Empowerment Program since 2000. Conducted Small, Minority and Women-Owned business empowerment seminars with M&T Bank in 2003 – 2004. Audited Financial Statements from 2000 to 2004.
